Two Bonner Seniors Commit to City Year

March 12th, 2014

Gladys Valle, a Senior here at Stetson University, has made the decision to join City Year Boston following the completion of her undergraduate degree this Spring. Another fellow Bonner, Ryan Rinaldo, will be joining the City Year Corps in New York City. The two students have had an extensive legacy of service throughout their time at Stetson and we are proud to see them continue on in living a life of service.

"City Year is an education focused, nonprofit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service to keep students in school and on track to graduation." (Excerpt from cityyear.org)

During her time at Stetson, Gladys has dedicated a great deal of her time to The Beautiful Movement. The Beautiful Movement is a program Gladys founded which focuses on empowering young girls. While her service experiences are extensive in number, The Beautiful Movement can be aptly described as the center of her passion for service.

"I chose to join City Year because I feel like it is my responsibility to give back to kids of lower socioeconomic backgrounds." (Gladys Valle)

Ryan Rinaldo has been in the Bonner Program since first coming to Stetson in the Fall of 2010. His involvements have been numerous since coming to campus but mentoring students was a passion of his from the start. As an AVID mentor, Ryan helped his former peers at Deltona High School learn more about the process of applying to colleges and preparing for the transition. In addition to this service, he has spent a great deal of time serving as an intern for the cities of Deltona and DeBary. This passion for civic virtue and mentoring youth are excellent qualities which match up well to the values of City Year.

We look forward to seeing the accomplishments of these two Bonner students as they continue their lives of service.
