Below are resources to guide those of you engaged in the Community Asset Mapping project. Everyone is welcome to share their own resources below - so be sure to share any really helpful websites, contacts, or other items that will help our family map the assets and needs of the area.
Instruction Sheet
ABC's of Your Community (use this link as a preliminary step for assessing your community)
Online Resources:
- Stetson Agency Database
- Volusia One: This will give you a list of non-profit organizations in Volusia County with links to their websites. This is a very good resource to use.
- Volunteer Fair Attendees: Here is a list of the community partners that will be attending the Volunteer Fair on September 17th, along with their contact information.
Handouts:
- Introductory Letter (Team Pierson)
- Survey Datasheet: Use this form when interviewing/surveying community agencies so that you get all of the information we need to have an accurate and comprehensive database when we are finished.
Examples:
- The "Where Bonners Have Been!" section of this wiki is a great model for what we wish the finished CAM project will look like - especially how a user can zoom in, scan an area for sites/opportunities, and then click on a thumbtack (or other marking symbol) to reveal more information about that site/opportunity. Ideally, that information would include everything about the site/opportunity, including contact information. schedule, main contact persons, programs/assets offered to the community, needs that volunteers can help with, website, some history, and finally multimedia content (videos, pictures, etc.). It would be incredible if we could do our entire presentation using only the Google Maps application.
- Use the Community Partners section on the Sidebar to see Google Maps of your three geographical areas: Spring Hill, Pierson and DeLand. If you can load your database into your respective map (as discussed in the bullet point above), that would be extremely helpful and - more importantly - user friendly. Your best resource for any questions about the Google Maps feature is Amanda Reece, so call or e-mail her if you need help setting up your team's Google Map.
